EIGHTH GRADE:
In eighth grade this coming week we will be continuing with chapter 5A. We have now moved from the Realidades A book which is the red book to the Realidades B book which is now blue. This current chapter includes vocabulary about birthday parties which ties into members of the family. This coming week we will be making family trees. Students will make these family trees based upon an imaginary family and they can be done on powerpoint or on the computer or on a poster. We will also be studying the verb Tener which means "to have" so we can use it with family members such as Yo tengo cinco hermanos. I have 5 brothers. Another gramatical point that is included in this chapter and will continue into the week after next is possesive adjectives. For example; mi abuela - my grandmother. Another example Nuestra hija - our daughter. We will probably be in this chapter for about the next three weeks and then we will be moving into chapter 5B: in a restaurant.
SIXTH GRADE:
This week in sixth grade we have been getting back into the book because we are finally finished with the Google Earth presentations. Most students did a great job on their country presentations using Google Earth and we all learned about many new and interesting places in Spanish speaking countries. This coming week we will continue with the first chapter of the textbook; Realidades. We have been making up actions that go along with new vocabulary, for example; escribe con un lapiz; write with a pencil, and the action would be pretending to write with a pencil. This cuts down on a lot of the direct English to Spanish translations and students get more involved and get to move about. This coming week we will learn several weather expressions. We will create actions for these weather expressions. We will also continue working on the Spanish calender including seasons, months, days of the week, and the date. I am hoping to finish up with the first chapter of the book called Para empezar within the next three week and hopefully have an exam before Thanksgiving.
SUMMIT:
We have started a new chapter including classes, hours, subject pronouns and present tense -ar verbs. Students are learning how to conjugate verbs which will soon lead to sentence contruction. This is a fairly short chapter which I hope to finish up in the next two weeks. The test for this chapter will be shorter and may even just be a quiz. The following chapter continues on theme of school items and also includes prepositional phases such as the pencil shapener is next to the computer.
