Eighth Week: Oct. 27th -Oct. 31st

EIGHTH GRADE:
This week in Eighth grade we are going to be finishing up chapter 4B along with studying dia de los muertos/Day of the dead which is on November 1st and 2nd. We will be having a test on Tuesday the 28th on chapter 4B. On Wednesday we will be in the kitchen making sugar skulls and on Thursday and Friday we will decorate and celebrate Dia de los muertos. Friday the 31st is the end of the quarter and Halloween and crazy hair day. Students should not wear costumes on Friday. Day of the dead is a very popular holiday in Mexico and it is important for students to understand the festive holiday.

SIXTH GRADE:
In sixth grade we are still finishing up Google Earth presentations. We have about 10 more presentations to go in each class which I am hoping to finish on Monday and Tuesday but some classes will probably run into Wednesday and Thursday. We will be studying and celebrating Dia de los muertos on either Wednesday and Thursday of this week of Monday and Tuesday of the following week. Aside from technical difficulties the Google Earth presentations have been influential and helpful in showing students the world around us. Also the end of the 1st quarter is on Friday October 31st so any students that need to make up quizzes/work need to do so before Thursday the 30th.

SUMMIT HIGH SCHOOL:
We are continuing to study ¿Como eres? and learning about our personalities and what we are like. Are we lazy, smart, shy, etc. We will be having an exam on this chapter probably on Tuesday of this week. We will also be studying Dia de los muertos and we will be celebrating probably on Friday October 31st. I would like to make Mexican sugar skulls on Wednesday and then decorate them on Thursday into Friday. I feel that it is important to understand and appreciate this festive and popular Mexican Holiday and we also need a break from the regular curriculum.

Seventh week: Oct. 20th-Oct. 24th

EIGHTH GRADE:
In eighth grade we have been working on chapter 4B through total physical response storytelling where we make up actions for new vocabulary and then associate them with pictures and then can eventually create stories. The chapter is about what you do in your free time and focusses on the verb, Jugar: to play. All of the new material in this chapter has been introduced and we will be reviewing this week and having a test on Friday or possibly earlier next week.

SIXTH GRADE:
In sixth grade we are working on a very cool google earth project where each student has a country to research and then they will present their country this week. They are supposed to introduce themselves and say where they are from in Spanish and the rest of the presentation is in English explaining where in the world their country is and what the surrounding countries are, what the weather is like and one to two places of interest along with the capital. The students have tacked locations in their country so they can show their classmates the interesting information and pictures, etc. that they have found. The presentations will be about 5 minutes long.

SUMMIT HIGH SCHOOL:
We just finished a chapter on what do you like to do? Including over 20 new verbs. This was a great unit because we could do a lot of acting and students caught on to the new vocabulary quickly.
We are starting a new chapter including descriptions of your personality and what you are like. Are you shy? Are you funny? Students will be able to ask what you are like or what he or she is like and explain someone's personality. We will also have a brief introduction to conjugating verbs in the present tense.

Fifth week: Oct. 6th-Oct. 10th

EIGHTH GRADE:
In the upcoming week, the eighth graders will be continuing to review chapter 4A including the verb "IR" to go, interrogative words, and places around town. There will be a unit test on Tuesday and then we will move on to chapter 4B including more activities such as going to concerts, going to games, going camping, etc. and the verb jugar "to play". The theme is ¿Que haces en tu tiempo libre? what do you do in your free time?

SIXTH GRADE:
This week we will be finishing up the body parts and having a short assessment/quiz. We will be starting a project using the program google earth to locate a spanish speaking place. The students will act as if they are from that country saying Me llamo Pedro, Soy de Barcelona. Then in English explaining what the place is like as far as weather and what there is to do, etc. They will then present this information to the class.

SUMMIT:
This week we will be continuing with the verb Gustar, talking about likes and dislike and learning about verbs and what verbs are in the infinitive and then conjugated verbs. ¿Que te gusta hacer? what do you like to do? is the theme of the week and then we will be moving into ¿Como eres?
